Identifying Forage Sorghum Ideotypes for Advanced Biorefineries

چکیده
Forage sorghum is a promising feedstock for the production of biofuels and bioproducts because it drought tolerant, high-yielding, familiar to farmers across world. However, spans diverse range phenotypes, unclear which are most desirable as bioenergy feedstocks. This paper explores four forage types, including brown-midrib (bmr), non-bmr, photoperiod sensitive (PS), insensitive (non-PS), from perspective their impact on minimum bioethanol selling price (MESP) at an ionic liquid pretreatment-based biorefinery. Among these there tradeoffs between biomass yield, lignin content, starch sugar contents. High biomass-yielding PS varieties have previously been considered preferable production, but, if sugars panicle retained during storage, use non-PS may result in lower-cost (MESP $1.26/L-gasoline equivalent). If advances utilization increase its value such that can be dried sold $0.50/kg, MESP each scenario lowered non-bmr become attractive option $1.08/L-gasoline While bmr lower comparatively yield results higher transportation costs negate fuel-yield advantage.

Combining Ability Effects for Mineral Elements in Forage Sorghum Hybrids
The concentrations of minerals in forages are important in satisfying animal requirements, but little attention has been given to determining these concentrations in forage sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench.) breeding programs. In this 2-yr study, the objectives were to determine the contents, genetic variability, combining ability effects, and correlations for 12 mineral elements in 49 expe...
متن کاملAdvantages of Forage Sorghum for Silage in Limited Input Systems
Water shortages are threatening the sustainability of irrigated agriculture in dry environments such as the Southern High Plains (SHP) of the U.S. Corn has been a staple silage crop grown to supply the enormous forage demand associated with dairy and beef feeding industries. The relatively high water use of corn, however, is limiting the extent to which corn can be grown. Although irrigated, co...

A brown midrib (BMR) sorghum pasture was compared with normal sorghum for its effects on performance of Holstein cows in midlactation in terms of milk production and composition at grazing over three periods (Period 1: 20/01 to 31/01, Period 2: 17/02 to 28/02, Period 3: 19/03 to 30/03). Forty Holstein cows were grouped according to pre-experimental milk production (22.4 ± 4.2 kg/d milk), live w...
متن کاملEvaluation of yield stability of forage sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] genotypes using AMMI analysis
Sorghum is an important forage crop used as silage, fresh forage and dry forage. To evaluate the yield stability of 16 genotypes; cultivars, lines and hybrids, of forage sorghum, experiments were conducted using randomized complete block design with three replications during 2016-17 at Karaj, Isfahan, Gorgan, and Mashhad field stations, Iran. The results of combined analysis of variance showed ...

To assess the effect of non chemical management of weed control on forage Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) a field study was conducted in Varamin, Iran during 2010 crop year in a three- replicated- split factorial experiment laid out in randomized complete block design with four weeding levels (W1= one time cultivation at 3-leaf stage using a duck foot cultivator, W2<...
